Omega-3 fatty acids

A family of polyunsaturated fats including ALA (plant), EPA and DHA (marine).

Sources

EPA and DHA come mainly from oily fish. ALA is found in walnuts, flax, and chia; the body converts only a small fraction to EPA/DHA.

Health claims

EPA and DHA contribute to the maintenance of normal cardiac function (EFSA at ≥ 250 mg/day). DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and normal vision (at ≥ 250 mg/day).
